This dynamic hand-stitched tapestry created by Ruth Ukwonga, Threads of Blessing artist, is packed with visuals. The work measures 13" x 11", and features dancers, drummers, and African trumpet players performing for onlookers. The exuberant scene is set outside a compound of six, round, thatched homes. Ruth's attention to detail cannot be understated: ankle bells, known as amayugi, are carefully stitched around the dancers' ankles; the multitude of colors stitched into the horn players' headdresses and the skirts of the dancers; the small blue birds perched in the tree; and the orange bench peaking out from under the spectators.
Movement and realism are beautifully illustrated in the uplifted feet and arms of the dancers and musicians and Ruth's command of color, composition, and detail is a testament to her artistic skills. ![]()

“Greetings to you in Jesus name. I wish to congratulate you and all others for your willingness to do great work for us in Threads of Blessing handwork. Through this program, I have done the following: I paid my daughter’s school fees up to Senior 4; I paid church “tithe” and other gifts. I bought land and some iron sheets. God willing, I shall build a house to live in next year. Also, I am helping the needy. Thanks.”
