This colorful hand-stitched work created by Judith, Threads of Blessing artist, measures 11 x 9 inches. The work offers a glimpse of everyday life in Uganda. A woman carries a baby, wrapped in a soft pink kanga, on her back. Over her head she holds a large bundle of sticks as she approaches a round thatched home, the traditional architecture of the region.  The backdrop includes an Acacia tree and a cool blue sky dotted with clouds.

Judith is part of the retired Archbishop Henry and Mama Phoebe Orombi’s household.  She lives in a village called Goli in the district of Nebbi in northwest Uganda.  Nebbi borders Lake Albert to the south, the River Nile to the east, and the Congo to the west.

Her life revolves around caring for her family and crops and assisting Mama Phoebe. She will use the funds she receives from her needlework to provide education for her children, medical support for herself and her family, seeds or fertilizer for her crops, and provide for any orphans for whom she cares as a result of HIV/AIDS or other illnesses.

Judith meets weekly with her fellow needleworkers.  The community they have built through Threads of Blessing encourages each of them and has significantly boosted their self-confidence.
