This hand-stitched tapestry created by Night Okoku, Threads of Blessing artist, measures 14 x 11 inches. The scene depicts everyday life in Uganda. A couple return from working in the field carrying hoes and a machete. The woman balances a large bundle of sticks on her head while carrying her infant on her back. They pass another man building furniture. The backdrop includes a compound of four round thatched homes, typical of the region of Goli. Night uses warm colors and beautiful stitchwork to create rich textures and the soft glow of late afternoon.
Night lives in Goli, Nebbi Diocese. She works in the Bishop’s office but her income does not meet her family needs. She offers this insight on her life and the challenges she faces.
“I have 6 biological children, and 3 orphans. All of them are in school. Two are in Secondary school. I face problems paying school fees. I trust in God that through Threads of Blessing some shall be solved.”
