Unframed Tapestry

This fanciful tapestry created by Harriet Nkakimanya, Threads of Blessing artist, measures 16 x 11.5 inches. Harriet offers a colorful treetop view of zebras grazing below brightly colored birds. Some are perched, while others dive and glide among the branches. Harriet's approach has an illustrative, animated, and childlike quality. The similarity in the shape and size of the tree tops, the ground foliage, and the clouds is balanced by the cool colors and repetitive horizontal pattern of the background.

Harriet lives in Uganda, in the town of Hoima, northwest of Uganda’s capital city of Kampala.  Living in a small brick house, Harriet’s life revolves around caring for her family and crops.

She will use the funds she receives from her needlework to provide education for her children; medical support for herself and her family; seeds or fertilizer for her crops; repairs to her home, or even begin to build a new one; and provide for any orphans for whom she cares as a result of HIV-AIDS or other illnesses.

Harriet meets weekly with her fellow needleworkers.  The community they have built through Threads of Blessing encourages each of them and has significantly boosted their self-confidence.
