Lucy Aduny, Threads of Blessing artist, provides a view of family life in Uganda in this hand-stitched tapestry that measures 13 x 11 inches. Lucy's skilled use of perspective, stitched patterns, and a cool color palette are evident in this work. Set amongst a three-home compound, two men look on as a woman prepares a meal over an outdoor fire. A younger girl sets a woven mat for the meal service as chickens wander by.
Different thread colors and stitches further define elements within the work and provide a remarkable transition between foreground, middle ground, and background.
She meets weekly with her fellow needleworkers. The community they have developed through Threads of Blessing encourages each of them and has significantly raised their self-esteem.
Lucy writes, “Praise be to God our Father. I am yet new in the group, but the first money I received I used to buy thread, and give 1/10 to the Lord. Thank you.”
