This colorful hand-stitched tapestry created by Roseline Amia, Threads of Blessing artist, provides a view of everyday life in Uganda. The work measures  8 x 6 inches. In the scene, a man and boy are shown feeding rabbits outside a family compound. A small rabbit hutch in the foreground, mirrors the design of the traditional round thatched homes of the region. The neutral tones of the soil and structures are contrasted against the vivid chartreuse of the background, and the repeating horizontal stitching creates texture and cohesiveness in the work.

Roseline lives in a small village in the district of Nebbi in northwest Uganda.  Nebbi borders Lake Albert to the south, the River Nile to the east, and the Congo to the west.

Living in a mud hut with a thatched roof, Roseline’s life revolves around caring for her family and her crops.  She will use the funds she receives from her needlework to provide education for her children; medical support for herself and her family; seeds or fertilizer for her crops; repairs to her home, or even begin to build a new one; and provide for any orphans for whom she cares as a result of HIV AIDS or other illnesses.

Roseline meets weekly with her fellow needleworkers.  The community they have built through Threads of Blessing encourages each of them and has significantly boosted their self-confidence.
