Apothina Achan embroidered the beautiful pot of flowers (notice the raised effect of the boullion knot stitches in the red flowers!) that decorates this 12" x 11" x 3" stand-up pouch. The outer fabric is olive chino, and the coral zipper and lining echo the tapestry background.
Apothina's home is in Agwok, a small village in the Nebbi district known for exceptional roof thatching. Nebbi is in the northwest corner Uganda bordered by Lake Albert and the River Nile. It is close to the Sudanese and Congolese borders. It is a beautiful mountainous region where crops grow well.
She will use the funds she receives from her needlework to provide education for her children; medical support for herself and her family; seeds or fertilizer for her crops; repairs to her home; and care for any orphans for whom she cares as a result of the war, HIV/AIDS or other illnesses.
