This charming tapestry by Ruth Ukwonga is a feast for the eyes! A rooster dominates the foreground, guarding a flock of chickens. A cat leaps after a lizard while another plays nearby. Children sweep the compound surrounded by an array of colorful huts. Trees, grass, mountains, and sky fill the background. The 12.5" x 10" piece would be wonderful on a large pillow, or framed.
Ruth lives in Goli, Nebbi District in northwest Uganda. Goli is the village where the annual workshop takes place. Ruth has described how creating tapestries such as this one has impacted her life:
“Greetings to you in Jesus name. I wish to congratulate you and all others for your willingness to do for us greatly in Threads of Blessing handworks. Through this program I have done the following: I paid my daughter’s school fees up to Senior 4; I pay church “tithe” and other gifts. I bought land for agriculture. I bought some iron sheets for roofing my house. Also, I am helping the needy. Thanks.”
