Jane lives in the Diocese of Nebbi and meets weekly with her fellow needleworkers. The community they have developed encourages each of them and has significantly raised their self-confidence. She belongs to Goli-A, one of 29 stitching groups located across several Ugandan provinces. The groups comprise over 900 women artists who are part of the Threads of Blessing family.
Each artist hand-stitches her piece, creating one-of-a-kind artwork that reflects her culture, daily life, and the landscapes in which she lives.
The money the women earn from their stitching is life-changing. It helps them support their families and pay for education and medical needs. By purchasing seeds, fertilizer, and feed, they generate income through gardening and maintaining livestock such as pigs, chickens, and goats. Some are even able to start small businesses.
