This beautiful floral tapestry, hand-stitched by artist Lydia Twhaise, measures 13 x 11 inches. Dense rows of bright flowers, dotted with colorful butterflies, offer a close-up view of the garden.
Lydia lives in Bunyoro-Kitara and meets regularly with her fellow needleworkers. She belongs to one of 29 groups located across several provinces in Uganda. The groups include over 900 women artists who are part of the Threads of Blessing family.
The money the women earn from their stitching is life-changing. It enables them to help support their families, pay for education and medical needs, and buy seeds and fertilizer for their crops. Each woman designs and hand-stitches her piece, creating a one-of-a-kind work of art that reflects her culture, daily life, and the landscape in which she lives.
