Naume Giramia, Threads of Blessing artist, offers a glimpse of family life in Uganda in this hand-stitched tapestry which measures 10 x 9 inches. A mother sits cooking over an open fire, while a man and child rest nearby. Chickens and a dog complete the scene set amongst a traditional family compound.
Naume offers this insight about her involvement as a Threads of Blessing artist. “I thank God for what he has done for me in Threads of Blessing. He has made me understand how to get money to pay my children’s school fees. I am very happy because I have been able to buy cement to plaster the walls of my house and to buy mabati (roofing material)”
Naume lives in Agwok, a community in Nebbi Diocese. She meets weekly with her fellow needleworkers. The community they have developed through Threads of Blessing encourages each of them and has significantly raised their self-confidence.
